Waree Leeba workshop cum festival begins

THOUBAL, May 21: A 10-day workshop-cum-festival of Waree Leeba, organised by the Thoubal District Waree Leeba Association, Thoubal Pakhangkhong Leirak, commenced today at Hari Naral Mandap, Langathel Mayai Leikai.
The inaugural function was attended by noted social worker and National Awardee Kshetrimayum Priyobarta as the chief guest. President of the Thoubal District Waree Leeba Association N Priyokumar presided over the function, while social worker Thokchom Ongbi Manglembi Devi attended as the guest of honour.
The workshop-cum-festival, which will continue for 10 days, will focus on the Birat Parba episode of the Mahabharata. A total of 17 Waree Leeba gurus from different parts of the State are taking part in the programme.
As part of the event, senior gurus of Waree Leeba were honoured with Lengyan in recognition of their contributions to the traditional art form. Konthoujam Sanjit, a recipient of the Manipur State Kala Academy Award, was also felicitated with a trophy, medal and gifts by the organising association.
The organisers further paid homage to departed gurus of Waree Leeba by offering floral tributes to their portraits during the inaugural ceremony.
