I-League 3 playoff Aimso Chithung nets thrice to assure Baghpat FC I-League 2 promotion

IMPHAL, May 22 : Aimso Chithung scored thrice to fashion Baghpat FC a 4-2 win over Chhaygaon FC in a crucial I-League 3 playoff match this evening at SAI Stadium.
Baghpat FC cemented their position on top of the table with the third win and assured themselves of 1-2 finish with a match left to spare. It also meant that they earned promotion to the 2026–27 I-League 2.
Aimso Chithung put Baghpat FC ahead after 11 minutes before scoring two more goals in the 36th and the 85th minutes to set up the 4-2 win as Chabungbam Linky Meitei (56’) contributed one goal. Pratap Kumar Tamnag (27’) and Midul Doley (75’) meanwhile were on target for Chhaygaon FC.
Baghpat will play Sunrise FC in their closing playoff match on May 24 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
FC Raengdai, Sunrise Club, KLASA remain in the contention for the remaining promotion slot
The day also saw FC Raengdai boost their promotion chances by handing TRAU a 2-0 defeat in another Manipur derby at Khuman lampak Stadium this evening.
FC Raengdai found the lead deep 87 minutes into the game courtesy of Basanta Singh Moirangthem before Chuingampou Kamei netted the decisive goal 7 minutes into the stoppage time.
The result lifted FC Raengdai to second in the table on 7 points.
KLASA had earlier played out a goalless draw with Sunrise Club Orissa at the same venue to remain in the fray for the top-two place. With the result, Sunrise Club Orissa and KLASA are third and fourth in the table on the same 6 points.
FC Raengdai desperately need full points to earn promotion to the I-League 2 next season.
