Financial assist given to IDPs

IMPHAL, May 24: As part of the Government’s efforts to assist Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today provided financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to an IDP family member who is currently facinag serious health issues.
The said IDP family has been taking shelter in the relief camp at Pravabati College, Mayang-Imphal, around 26 Kms from Imphal.
Upon his arrival at the relief camp, the Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome at the fitness centre in the college campus.
Yumnam Khemchand interacted with the representatives of IDPs and the college student’s union.
Later, the Chief Minister went to Charoipung Playground, Mayang-Imphal and inaugurated a newly constructed “Multipurpose Indoor Hall” under the Khelo India Scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister motivated the young players from Mayang-Imphal Constituency, and said that India’s sports are not complete without the presence of players from Manipur.
On various demands raised by the local MLA, Kongkham Robindro Singh, the Chief Minister assured the people of the Constituency that a football turf will be constructed in the region.
Funds for the construction of boys’ and girls’ hostels for the players will also be earmarked in the State Budget and the construction of approach road will also be initiated, he added.
The Chief Minister further stated that the unprecedented crisis in the State has caused hardship to all the communities. “We must forget the past and move forward towards development in the State,” he said.
The Chief Minister also distributed commendation certificates and plaques to players and coaches who have brought fame to the State.
Speaking at the inauguration of Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Charoipung Playground, Mayang Imphal, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that the Mayang Imphal Constituency has witnessed a significant change during the last few years in terms of education and sports.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing National Sports University in the State, in recognition of the State’s potential in the field of games and sports.
Later, Yumnam Khemchand also inaugurated a 100 bedded girls’ hostel, eight class rooms, library, Science and Craft block of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Heigum Yangbi, Mayang-Imphal, in Imphal West.
The Chief Minister also visited Wangoi subdivision and inspected the progress of the construction of a 100-bedded hospital. He interacted with the local womenfolk and assured them that the hospital would soon be made functional.
The Chief Minister also interacted with members of the All Mayang-Imphal Muslim Youth Development Organisation (AMIMYDO) at Bengoon ground. He assured the members of the AMIMYDO the their proposal for construction of a volleyball court will be looked into.
