IMPHAL, May 24 : Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) president Padmashri Dr Waikhom Gojen has passed away.
He passed away at RIMS at around 6.30 pm yesterday.
His mortal remains have been laid to rest at his native village at Sekta today.
Sharing grief and pain of the bereaved family members, MEELAL held a condolence meeting at its office today.
MEELAL members including Sadokpam Tomba Mangang, Nongmailembi, and Paonam Thakaba paid tributes and remembered the departed and his contributions towards promoting Meetei Mayek.
Paonam Thakaba said W Gojen's demise is a great loss for MEELAL and Manipur as a whole.
His demise has left a void that can never be filled, Thakaba said.
Apart from promoting Meetei Mayek, Gojen made significant contributions in building the Manipur Bhavan in Kolkata, Thakaba said.
Gojen also served as the vice chairman of the Film Forum Manipur.
Gojen produced celluloid/feature films and was an AIR approved lyricist, Thakaba said, praying for the departed soul to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
Wakhal Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) Kangleipak has also condoled the demise of the MEELAL president and its founding member.
In a condolence meeting held at the office of Pandam, WAMA president Moirangthem Nao-khomba, secretary Ningthoujam Debeshwar and other members paid floral tributes to the photo of Dr W Gojen.
In a statement, the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) said it is deeply saddened by the demise of MEELAL president and WAMA founding president Padmashri Dr W Gojen.
W Gojen was a leader who worked with dedication to uplift Meetei Mayek and Manipuri culture and tradition, said HERICOUN.
His untimely demise has left a void that can never be filled, said HERICOUN praying for eternal peace of the departed soul.
Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) also condoled the demise of Dr W Gojen and shared the pain and grief of the bereaved family members.
