IMPHAL, May 24 : Urging the Government to find a solution to the protracted crisis plaguing Manipur, the Manipur Central Youth Club (MCYC) and Keishampat Keisham Leikai Meira Paibee (KKLMP) staged a sit-in protest today at Keishampat Lairembi Community Hall.
During the protest, the demonstrators urged the Government of India (GoI) to stop its alleged “proxy war,” withdraw Central security forces which, they claimed, have failed to safeguard the public and their properties, end “State terrorism,” and release the hostages who have been missing since May 13, among other demands.
They also questioned whether the Government is deliberately allowing communities to fight each other, condemning the security forces for allegedly permitting abductions, armed attacks, and other crimes to take place under their watch.
The protesters claimed that the State Government has been creating confusion among the people by making inconsistent statements instead of safeguarding people and discharging its duties firmly.
Stating that hostile forces are attempting to divide people on ethnic lines, they called for unity among the indigenous people.
Why is the Government still silent when external forces entered Manipur, attacked its people, and burnt their properties, they said referring to the recent attack on three villages in Kamjong by suspected KNF (B) cadres.
The protesters asserted that the State Government has failed to protect Manipur and its people.
Claiming that people have been left to fend for themselves, they called for unity among the public.
They also urged everyone to organise sit-in protests in their respective localities as preparation for a larger movement.
