THOUBAL, May 24 : Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand Singh today inspected the proposed extension campus of the Manipur Technical University (MTU), DIET Hostel, Heirok Community Health centre and several developmental projects at Heirok, Thoubal district.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Heirok Consti- tuency MLA Thokchom Radhesyham Singh, Vice Chancellor of MTU, Prof W Chandbabu Singh and Commissioner (Education) Ning- thoujam Geoffrey.
The site of the extension campus of Manipur Technological University was earlier developed to house the Heirok Engineering College, an institution under the MTU.
It was later converted into an extension campus.
During the inspection today, the Chief Minister instructed the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) to blacktop a 6-kilometer-long road connecting the campus with the National Highway 102, Imphal-Moreh Road. He also instructed the officials to construct walls, drainages and footpaths inside the campus.
Khemchand inspected the newly constructed buildings and inquired about any assistance required from the Government.
The Vice Chancellor of MTU, informed the Chief Minister that some classes may start in the extension campus from this academic session starting July-August.
The Chief Minister also took note of issues related to drinking water and power supply. He assured the local MLA that the Government will soon improve both power supply and drinking water supply in the area.
The Chief Minister later inspected the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya which has been opened and is running temporarily in a Government building at Heirok. He interacted with the teachers and students of the school and also planted saplings at the school campus.
Khemchand then visited the Community Health Centre at Heirok and reviewed facilities and services being provided to the local people. He spoke with the doctors in the CHC and assured them of assistance to improve existing infrastructure.
Later, he visited the Women’s Market at Heirok and interacted with the locals.
Khemchand said the purpose of the visits was to review the status and progress of the projects, institutions and improve infrastructure for enhanced delivery of service to the public.
