IMPHAL, May 25: Officials of the CAF & PD and Weight & Measures Department conducted surprise inspections at wholesalers and shops opened at Alu Gali, Thangal Keithel and Nagamapal today.
Imphal West District Supply Officer (DSO) L Ibotombi led the inspection conducted under the supervision of CAF & PD Director Yumnam Nelson.
During the inspection drive, the team found some shops selling onions at inflated prices higher than the Government notified price of Rs 30 per Kg.
With a stern warning to cancel licenses, the officials issued instructions to the shops to adhere to the Government rules and sell goods at notified prices.
Speaking to reporters, Imphal West DSO L Ibotombi said the inspections were carried out after complaints were received about edible items including potatoes and onions being sold at inflated prices in the market.
Shops including wholesalers must sell goods including essential items at Government notified prices. Strict actions will be taken against shops which are found flouting the rules in the future, he said.
Prices of goods/essential items may be revised in the coming days according to market conditions, he added.
