Ukhrul, May 25 : Resuming its armed aggression after a brief lull, Kuki militants launched a fresh attack late last night around 1 am, firing and lobbing bombs at S Laho village, near Litan in Ukhrul district.
No casualties have been reported so far.
According to locals, around midnight, a convoy of about 10 Assam Rifles vehicles passed through Shokvao village from Ukhrul. However, women guarding S Laho village reportedly prevented the security personnel from moving further ahead.
Later, after the Assam Rifles convoy left the area, Kuki militants believed to be stationed at Mongkot Chepu Kuki village opened fire and carried out bomb attacks using sophisticated weapons from multiple directions towards S Laho Tangkhul village, located opposite Mongkot Chepu village, from several bunkers. The attack lasted several hours until dawn on Monday.
Although no casualties have been reported, the situation in and around Litan remains highly volatile, as Kuki militants often target Tangkhul villages without provocation.
It may be mentioned that NH-202, the Imphal-Ukhrul road and the lifeline connecting Ukhrul and Kam- jong districts, has remained blocked for several days.
As a result, Ukhrul and Kamjong districts remain cut off from other parts of the State, including the capital.
Locals have urged the State Government to urgently intervene and open NH-202 to ease the growing hardship caused by the disruption in supply of essential goods.
