KAKCHING, May 25: Residents of Sugnu Ward No 1 Torban Leikai on Monday locked the pump house used for drawing water from the Manipur River for the Sugnu Water Supply Scheme, alleging that their locality has been deprived of water supply despite hosting the pumping facility.
The protestors expressed resentment over the continued non-availability of water in the locality even though the Sugnu Water Supply Scheme has been supplying water to other areas of Sugnu since its inception.
Speaking to reporters during the protest, protester Laishram Sapana alleged that not even a single drop of water has been supplied to the locality where the pump house is located.
She stated that despite the Government laying new pipelines in the area, residents living near the pump house continue to face difficulties in accessing water. She further said that the matter had already been brought to the attention of Keystone Infra Private Ltd, the company responsible for laying the pipelines, but no concrete action has been taken so far.
The protestors warned that the pump house supplying water for the Sugnu Water Supply Scheme would remain locked indefinitely until water supply is ensured to the locality.
