IMPHAL, May 27:  A high-level Congress delegation from Manipur met with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairperson, former Supreme Court Judge Justice V Ramasubramanian today and submitted a written complaint regarding ongoing human rights violations in Manipur.
The delegation led by CLP leader K Meghachandra highlighted several crises gripping the State over recent weeks.
They pointed out that the State is currently facing severe humanitarian and security challenges stemming from three major ongoing incidents:
The illegal abduction of 20 civilians––six Nagas and 14 Kukis and keeping them hostage. Continuous economic blockade on vital National Highways leading to Manipur.
Acute non-availability of essential items, medical supplies, and LPG cooking gas resulting directly from the highway blockades.
The Congress delegation appealed to the NHRC for swift legal and administrative interventions.
The complaint explicitly requested the NHRC to issue directives to top State officials.
The Congress delegation urged the NHRC to direct the Chief Minister to present detailed, public reports regarding the whereabouts of the 20 abducted persons, with copies provided directly to the complainant.
It urged the NHRC to direct the Chief Secretary of Manipur to ensure the immediate and safe release of the six Nagas and 14 Kukis.
It further asked the commission to issue directives to the DGP Manipur to take swift action against the abductors, register formal FIRs, and execute immediate arrests. The complaint also requested the NHRC to direct both the Chief Secretary and the DGP to table comprehensive ‘action taken reports’ concerning the abductions, the National highway blockades, and the resulting essential commodity shortages.
The delegation requested that copies of these official reports be shared transparently with the complainants.
