IMPHAL, May 28 : A double-storey building was gutted in a fire that broke out at Uripok Khaidem Leikai in Imphal West last midnight.
According to reports, the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
In the incident, three shops located on the ground floor of the building including a battery workshop, a hardware and cement shop, a grocery shop, and a hotel were destroyed by the fire.
Several rooms on the first floor of the building along with household items were also reduced to ashes.
The building is jointly owned by Khaidem Iboyai and Khaidem Bobo.
Soon after the incident, local residents along with personnel of the Manipur Fire Service rushed to the spot. Using two water bowsers and three fire tenders, they tried to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
After nearly two hours of hectic efforts, the fire was doused at around 2.20 am .
No human casualties or injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
The exact value of the properties damaged in the fire is yet to be ascertained.
