IMPHAL, May 28: Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) has written to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to promote State song "Sana Leibak Manipur" and for it to be sung in all State functions.
The song "Sana Leibak Manipur" was adopted as the State song on August 7, 2021, and it was notified in the Gazette notification on August 12, 2021. It should be sung in all State functions to promote Manipur's identity and culture, said KIMACS.
Briefing media persons at its office located inside the Government Dance College campus, Palace Compound, KIMACS' secretary general, RK Leninsana said singing the State song in State functions is honouring and respecting Manipur's identity and culture.
The State song was unfortunately not sung in the recent Khongjom Day observance. Further, it was ignored and only the National song "Vande Mataram" and the Anthem were sung in the Manipur State Shumang Leela Festival inaugurated by the Governor recently, Leninsana said.
The people and KIMACS see the omission of the State song in the State functions as a deliberate act and disrespectful of Manipur's identity and  cultural values, he added.
To promote and show respect for Manipur's identity and culture, the State song shall be performed or sung in all State functions and events, Leninsana said.
The State Government should prepare a guideline requiring the State song to be sung or performed in all its functions, he added.
