IMPHAL, May 28: The clamour to end the alleged Government of India’s proxy war in Manipur reverberated loud and clear as many organisations observed the 28th Meira Paibi Day today.
The 28th Meira Paibi Day held today at Tharo Devi Lampak at Khurai Salanthong was organised by the Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee.
The function began with offering of floral tributes to the Meira Paibi statue installed at the Tharo Devi Lampak.
Speaking at the event, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) president and Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee convenor Y Kunjarani demanded an immediate end to the Government of India’s proxy war.
She said that the people of Manipur have been facing ruthless repression and persecution at the hands of the Indian military forces since Manipur was annexed by India in 1949.
Indian armed forces personnel have killed, tortured or engineered forced disappearance  of innumerable number of Manipuri men while a large number of Manipuri women have been raped and/or murdered under the shadow of the infamous Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act or AFSPA 1958, she said.
Kunjarani accused the Government of India of scheming consistently to create divisions and animosity among the communities of Manipur.
The Government of India has been playing a highly malicious communal card, she said.
Violence and killings escalated dramatically after May 3, 2023 and this is a machination of the Government of India.
Saying that the May 3, 2023 violence started between two communities, the AMAWOVA president pointed out that the violence has escalated in scope over the years, drawing in more communities.
Since the violence erupted, a large number of people have been killed with some of the bodies untraceable till date while many are still missing, she said.
The Government of India should stop sowing seeds of division among the communities of Manipur, and all the Indian military forces being deployed in the State in the name of protecting the people must be withdrawn at the earliest, Kunjarani demanded.
She called upon all the communities of Manipur to come together, know the enemies and fight collectively against the prolonged violence and repression.
She further called upon all the communities to stand united and firm against the Government of India’s diabolic policy aimed at wiping out Manipur from the planet.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) president Soraisam Memcha, DM College of Arts former Principal Dr Ch Sheelaramani and Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak (MEPWAK) president R Rengsongak Koireng graced the observation as president, chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
