IMPHAL, May 28: The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has vehemently condemned the May 26 attack on civilians at Goitang (Nongadang) village under Khoupum subdivision, Noney district.
The Zeliangrong Union (AMN) in a statement said one Kagundai Riamei (60), Lungdailu Riamei (55) and Gailatou Riamei (35), all farmers, were fired upon by Kuki militants on May 26 at around 9 am.
The Zeliangrong people are outraged by the attack carried out by suspected Kuki militants. Repeated acts of intimidation, violence, and provocation against the Zeliangrong Nagas in their own land are unacceptable and intolerable. Such actions seriously endanger peace, stability, and inter-community relations in Manipur, said the ZU (AMN).
The Zeliangrong people have consistently upheld peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and communal harmony with all communities residing in Manipur. However, continued restraint, patience, and commitment to peace must not be misconstrued as weakness or incapability, it said.
The continued aggression against Zeliangrong people has gone beyond the limit of their patience, and it is compelling the people to take appropriate measures for the protection and defence of their community and ancestral territory, said the union.
The authorities concerned and security agencies of the Government must immediately investigate the May 26 incident and bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure adequate security for protection of innocent civilians in the affected areas. Failure to act decisively may further aggravate the tension and undermine the public confidence in the Government of Manipur and the Government of India, said the ZU (AMN).
