IMPHAL, May 30 : A sit-in protest was held today at Yaingangpokpi Bazar, highlighting a series of demands related to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. Organised by the Yaingangpokpi Village Authority (YVA) under the aegis of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the demonstration saw participation from members of different communities from Yaingangpokpi, Thamnapokpi, Sanasabi, and Seijang.
Key demands raised during the protest included an end to the “proxy war” allegedly waged by the Government of India and the launch of a military crackdown against Kuki narco-terrorists. The meeting, presided by YVA president Elangbam Syamkeso, called for unity among the people to face the challenges confronting the State together.
Speaking to the media, COCOMI co-convenor Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar stated that the Government of India has disregarded Manipur’s interests while advancing its own agenda. Claiming that the people of Manipur are bearing the brunt of the alleged proxy war, he alleged that the rule of law is being enforced only in the valley districts, while law and order remain largely absent in the hill districts.
A similar sit-in protest was held at Pourabi Community Hall in Imphal East under the aegis of COCOMI.
