SIR: House-to-house visits begin

Imphal, May 30  (DIPR) : The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Imphal East will cover 3,31,586 voters, said District DEO Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam.
The District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal East, on Saturday briefed the media on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll, 2026, which is being undertaken with July 1, 2026 as the qualifying date.
The exercise, initiated by the Election Commission of India (ECI) under Article 324 of the Constitution and Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll while removing ineligible entries.
Briefing a press meet, Dr Nivedita, DEO/DC Imphal East, stated  that the preparatory phase, including training programmes and printing of Enumeration Forms, was carried out from May 20 to 29.
She said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have started house-to-house visits from today, and the exercise will continue till June 28.
Rationalisation of polling stations is expected to be completed by June 28.
She further stated that the Draft Electoral Roll will be published on July 5, following which electors may submit claims and objections until August 4.
The disposal of claims and objections will continue up to September 2, while the Final Electoral Roll willl be published on September 6, she added.
She further informed that Imphal East has a total electorate of 3,31,586 voters, comprising 1,57,328 men, 1,74,164 women and 94 third-gender electors. To ensure that no eligible voter is left behind, especially Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), migrant voters and senior citizens, a dedicated Helpdesk has been set up at the district level, she said.
