IMPHAL, May 30 : The Naga People’s Front (NPF), Manipur State Unit has demanded an immediate and transparent status report on the investigation into the disappearance of six Naga men who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026.
Speaking to media persons at their Langol Tarung office today, NPF-MSU president Awangbow Newmai vehemently condemned the reported killing of an FCI truck driver from West Bengal, the injury of police personnel in the line of duty, and the destruction of National Highway-202 near Shangkai Village.
He also raised many questions over suspected intelligence and law enforcement lapses regarding the abduction of six Naga civilians.
Expressing serious concern over digging up NH-202 using heavy machinery, Awangbow Newmai asked how such large-scale destruction of a strategic public lifeline could occur without timely intervention or preventive measures from the security personnel deployed to protect the route.
"Such incidents not only threaten the safety of innocent citizens but also undermine the rule of law and further destabilize an already fragile situation," he said.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand visited Makhan village on May 28, 2026, where he heard first-hand accounts from victims and affected families.
These testimonies "differed significantly" from the official information previously provided to the Government through official channels, raising serious concerns regarding the quality of ground-level investigation and reporting, the NPF-MSU president remarked.
He asserted that the testimonies given by the victims indicate the six Naga men were initially detained by a group of women at Leilon Vaiphei village before the six men were handed over to armed Kuki militants.
He then asked if those Leilon Vaiphei villagers have been identified, questioned, or had their statements officially recorded.
Despite the deployment of substantial security forces and direct orders issued following the Chief Minister’s visit (to Makhan), there has been no visible breakthrough or identification of suspects despite available eyewitness accounts, he decried.
He also asked whether there were critical lapses at the level of field intelligence and reporting.
The NPF-MSU president demanded a thorough inquiry into the ground-level investigation and reporting lapses.
He also demanded swift identification and prosecution of all individuals responsible for the recent acts of violence, including the killing of civilians, attacks on security forces and infrastructure destruction. He further demanded enhanced security measures to prevent further unwanted incidents and ensure safety across all communities.
