IMPHAL, May 31: Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Akoijam has come down heavily on the State Government for acting only at the instruction of the Central Government.
“Despite knowing fully well that law and order is a State subject, the State Government has been only dancing to the tune of the Centre. It is a matter of shame”, Dr Bimol Akoijam said.
Speaking at a public discourse held today at Akampat on the topic “Youths in Politics: Why and How”, the Lok Sabha Member pointed out that the Meitei community who forms the backbone of Ma-nipuri Nation cannot reach even Kanglatongbi and this is unprecedented in the long history of Manipur. It is written very clearly in the Constitution that maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the State Government, he pointed out.
But in Manipur, the Central Government has been interfering every now and then, and forcing the State Government to follow its dictates, he said.
Dr Bimol said that even the State’s DGP is appointed from New Delhi. This is really absurd, he remarked.
When the Meitei community cannot go up to Kanglatongbi, the Government has been trying to cover up its weaknesses and failures, the Lok Sabha Member asserted.
MPCC general secretary Seram Neken underscored the importance of knowing the genesis of the current Manipur crisis. He said it’s time to shed the notion that politics is something dirty which should be avoided.
He said that political leaders are busy amassing personal wealth while the State is burning.
Seram Neken said that the people of Manipur have landed in a big trouble on account of taking politics as something of little importance. It’s time for all eligible people to join politics in order to elect only the competent and committed representatives, he asserted.
