IMPHAL, May 31 : YPHUC, Lalambung defeated THAU, Thangmeiband by 63 runs via VJD/other method for two wins in three Group C matches of the ongoing 4th MNCA Men’s U19 One Day Trophy.
YPHUC were 103/7 in 28 overs when rain interrupted the innings at Model Hr Secondary and Oriental College Ground.
Eventually the target was revised to 105 in 28 overs and THAU were dismissed for 41 runs within 18 overs with Jangammei Maringmei and Konsam Mangal wreaking havoc across their line up.
Choosing to bat first, YPHUC started slowly and saw Irom Ishor run out on the way to his fourth run in the fourth over as the scoreboard read 9 before Gurumayum Prince 8 and Birbal Irom improved the run rate by adding 35 off 50 balls till Prince was trapped lbw by Khundrakpam Bidyananda.
Things started to crumble as Bidyananda went on to get rid of four more batters including leading scorers Birbal (27 off 41 balls and Irom Sunny 17 off 9 balls) to reduce YPHUC to 88/6 in 20 overs.
YPHUC’s Konthoujam Rohan claimed a wicket in the form of Purujit Mutum (4) for the 7th wicket. Jangammei Maringmei 4 and Gurumayum Karunish 0 were unbeaten when rain halted the match.
Despite Bidyananda enjoying a five wicket haul (5/23 in 8 overs), THAU batting department collapsed like a house of cards with Jangammei Maringmei (4/13 in 6 overs), Konsam Mangal (4/14 in 4 overs), and Irom Ishor (2/5 in 3 overs) taking wickets almost at will.
Khundrakpam Bidyananda and M Pibaren made identical 9 runs each in this innings in a lost cause.
The Group A match played between MPA, Thounaojam and CYCLONE, Thangmeiband at Khudeiband Lampak was abandoned due to rain.
MPA were 41/3 when rain played spoilsports and forced the two teams to share a point apiece.
