IMPHAL, May 31: Satellite transmitter tagged female Amur Falcon "Alang" has arrived in the eastern end of Bhutan bordering Assam and is resting the night there, said people familiar with the tracking of the falcon's migratory pattern today.
In mid May, Alang left the Somali shores and was heading toward Socotra island, an archipelago in the Arabian sea.
The officials studying Alang's migratory route said, "This is the first time any of our tagged falcons have actually stopped for a night in Bhutan."
Alang has been making flights depending on the prevailing weather conditions and is likely avoiding flying into heavy rain zones, said the officials.
The Amur Falcons (Falco amurensis) are the world's longest travelling small raptors of the falcon family.
