UKHRUL, May 31: Pointing its fingers at Shangkai Kuki villagers for digging up NH-202 (Imphal-Ukhrul road), the Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has asserted that this uncivilized act of sabotage was believed to have been instigated and backed by Kuki narco-terrorists and militant cadres under SoO agreement.
“What a shame to the migrant Kukis treating the public property as their own and exposing their sheer lack of civility before the eyes of the world,” the TNL remarked in a statement.
The TNL has also taken strong exception to the damages caused to the highway which has been under indefinite blockade by Kuki civil society organisations since May 13, 2026.
The State Government must not remain a mute spectator. The chief of Shangkai village and his village authority council should be held accountable for the intentional damages caused to the public property, the TNL asserted.
The authorities must initiate action, arrest the persons responsible for such an illegal act and put the culprits to trial in the Court of law, it said.
Kuki refugees have scant respect for humanity as well as the land which is never theirs from time immemorial.
Vast tracts of forest land that belong to the Nagas have been adversely affected due to poppy cultivation undertaken by the migrant Kukis, and the soil has also been damaged beyond repair on account of excessive use of harmful chemicals and fertilizers, the TNL said.
It is also a well known reality that the Kuki villagers are involved in drug smuggling across the border and funding terrorism in the State of Manipur, it said.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is once again impressed upon to take serious note of the matters regarding the involvement of Kuki cadres under SoO pact in various nefarious and terror activities in the hills of Manipur and across the Indo-Myanmar border. The SoO agreement between the Kuki militants and the Gol should be abrogated without any delay to save Manipur from further damages”, it added.
