65th CC Meet SSU, UYT share spoils; both qualify for knock-out stage

IMPHAL, Jun 9 : Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei and United Youth Thamnapokpi (UYT), Thamnapokpi entered the pre-quarterfinals of the ongoing 65th CC Meet as Group F winners and runners up.
SSU fought from a goal down to play out a 1-1 draw with UYT this morning at Mapal Kangjeibung and sealed the pole position of Group F having beaten SWC, Keirak by 3-1 goals in their previous outing.
Naorem Bikash put UYT ahead after 28 minute with a clinical finish only to be equalised by Abujam Nanao in the 41st minute for SSU.
The scoreline remained intact despite efforts from both the ends to find the difference and eventually SSU finished on top and UYT finished group runners up with 2 draws in 2 group matches.
SSU will play SSC, Sekta in a pre-quarterfinal clash while UYT will play Sainik FC.
In a Group B clash staged in the afternoon, TRUGPU played out a goalless draw with Imphal FA to keep their pre-quarterfinal hopes alive on 4 points from 3 matches.
Their fate will depend on the result of the remaining Group B match between USA and IYFC slated for tomorrow. USA have won two of their two matches and have already qualified for the last-16 round and IYFC, who had beaten IFA 3-2 before going down 0-1 to TRUGPU, also remain in the contention for the runners up spot.
