Deepak Chingakham was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra. He was killed during Operation Sindoor in May 2025.
The awards were presented by the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi yesterday.

The President presented Shaurya Chakra to Major Leishangthem Deepak Singh, 11 Para (Special Forces), for his exceptional bravery.
"Acting on intelligence regarding the kidnapping of two innocent civilians, he neutralised a terrorist at very close range and shielded a kidnapped civilian with his own body. This resulted in the neutralisation of two hardcore cadres and the rescue of an innocent civilian," said the Rashtrapati Bhavan in a post.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Tuesday said conferring the Shaurya Chakra on two defence personnel from the State brought immense pride to the people.
Extending congratulations to Leishangthem Deepak, Khemchand Singh, in a social media post, said, "His courage, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to duty bring immense pride to Manipur and serve as an inspiration to generations of young Indians."
The CM saluted Leishangthem's valour and commitment to the nation.
He also extended congratulations to Vaiphei for "his exceptional courage, tactical acumen, and distinguished service during a counter-infiltration operation".
Vaiphei hails from Churachandpur district.
In another post, Singh said, "His (Vaiphei) gallantry and dedication to the nation bring immense pride to Manipur and inspire our youth to serve with honour, commitment, and patriotism."
BJP State president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, on behalf of the party, said the two brave sons of Manipur have displayed "extraordinary courage, unwavering dedication to duty, and selfless service to the nation".
"Their acts of gallantry in the face of grave danger embody the highest traditions of valour, sacrifice, and patriotism," she said.
