Man stabbed to death, 4 arrested

IMPHAL, Jun 11: A 42-year old man was stabbed to death in a brawl at Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai last morning.
Four persons arrested by police in connection with the killing of Kshetrimayum Devjit s/o Jugindro of Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today.
The arrested persons have been identified as Salam Saran (60) s/o (L) Nimaichand, his son Salam Boy (43), Salam Gojen alias Taton 65 s/o (L) Nimaichand and Salam Hudson (23) s/o Boy of Singjamei Chingamakha.
An APP of the State submitted that Ksh Deepak, elder brother of the victim, lodged a complaint before Singjamei police station at around noon yesterday stating that his younger brother Ksh Devjit had gone for a morning walk along with his two dogs at around 8 am yesterday but he returned home with a serious stab wound on the left side of his lower abdomen at around 8.45 am.
Devjit was taken to Kripadarshini Advance Hospital for treatment in serious condition.
It was also stated that while going out for a morning walk near Nambul Mapal community hall, Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai, the victim had a confrontation with the accused persons.
In the course of investigation, the accused persons were arrested and during examination, Salam Saran disclosed that following a confrontation with the victim and his elder brother Salam Gojen, he (Saran) joined the confrontation and stabbed the victim with a folding knife on the stomach.
From the disclosure of Salam Saran, the weapon (knife) used in committing the crime was seized.
However, statements given by the other three accused persons do not corroborate with each other.
As such, further examination of the accused persons is required to establish the facts of the case, the APP submitted.
Moreover examination of more witnesses is required to establish the facts of the case.
Another accused, Salam Premila has been absconding from police arrest and her whereabouts is still not known, the APP said before praying the Court to remand the arrested persons in police custody.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the accused persons in police custody for five days.
