Sharda gets RS seat unopposed

IMPHAL, Jun 11: NDA candidate and BJP Manipur Pradesh president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi has been elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed.
Election to the State’s lone Rajya Sabha seat was scheduled for June 18 but only A Sharda filed nomination papers for the election, leaving her with no rival.    
Sharda’s nomination papers were found valid after scrutiny done on June 9.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretary and the election’s Returning Officer Rohit Sapam declared A Sharda elected to the Rajya Sabha and handed her the certificate of election at around 4.30 pm today.
Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, NDA MLAs Dr Sapam Ranjan, Paonam Brojen, T Robindro, K Robindro, Th Shyamkumar, Md Ashabudin, I Nalini, Karam Shyam and M Rameshwor accompanied A Sharda from the BJP office as she went to the State Assembly to collect the certificate of election.
Later speaking to media persons, Sharda said that she would work at her best level to bring a solution to the protracted Manipur crisis and restore peace in the State.
She said that she would work in consonance with the State Government toward restoring peace and stability in the State.
Sharda further vowed that she would always work in the interest of the people.
After collecting the certificate of election, Sharda came back to the BJP office where she was accorded a warm reception by BJP office bearers and members.
