Murder accused in judicial custody

IMPHAL, Jun 11 : The Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thoubal has remanded Maibam Mayum Mahil Alam (27), an accused in a murder case, to judicial custody.
Alam, also known as Naobi, son of Tamijur Rahaman of Thoubal Moijing Leingonjin was produced before the Court yesterday in connection with the murder of Havaldar Kh Suresh of the 4th IRB, who was attached to the Thoubal Commando Unit during an anti-drug operation at Moijing Meena Bazar, Thongkhong, on June 3 last at around 8.20 pm.
The Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) sought his remand in judicial custody.
What the Prosecutor submits
On June 3 at around 8.30 pm., a Thoubal Commando team received information about illicit drug transactions at Moijing Khongkok.
The team, accompanied by Havaldar Kh Suresh in civilian attire, rushed to the location.
Upon arrival, the commando team intercepted an Alto car carrying two suspects.
The individuals were later identified as Maibam Mayum Mahil Alam and Salman Khan (30), son of Allauddin of Moijing Maibam Leikai.
During verification, Alam attacked Havaldar Kh Suresh with a knife, causing severe bleeding.
Both suspects then fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle.
Havaldar Suresh was rushed to Thoubal District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Alam was apprehended on June 4 from Lilong Hangamthabi.
During custodial examination, he disclosed the  place where the weapon used, a folding knife, was concealed.
Acting on his disclosure, the knife was recovered and seized the same evening.
Further investigation revealed that on June 3, around 7 pm, Alam and Salman Khan had purchased and consumed heroin at Lilong Ubakthong before proceeding home.
Intercepted by commando personnel at Moijing Khongkok, Alam resisted detention, shouting “Mi Fare,” and attacked Havaldar Suresh during the ensuing commotion.
Alam and Salman Khan then fled in separate directions, abandoning their vehicle.
Alam further disclosed that he hid in a nearby paddy field that night and disposed of the weapon at Khekman roadside bush on June 4.
Investigations confirmed his direct involvement in the attack, which resulted in the death of a commando personnel performing official duties.
Salman Khan remains at large, and efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.
The APP requested judicial custody for Alam in the interest of justice and a fair investigation.
After hearing submissions and reviewing the case records, the Court remanded Alam to judicial custody till June 24.
