Child swept away

IMPHAL, Jun 11: A downpour that lasted just hours this afternoon caused flash floods in many areas in Chura-chandpur and tragically carried away a young girl child.
The girl, Lamboikim, is said to be a student studying in Class VIII at R Foundation School. She was carried away by a strong current caused by a sudden flash flood. She may have been carried away into the Khuga River by the current. Search and rescue operations are on, said sources.
The downpour in the afternoon at around 2.30 flooded several areas including roads in Churachandpur and Tuibong Bazar.
All traffic came to a halt and the gushing water carried away many articles and goods from roadside shops.
When this paper contacted the Churachandpur police station over the phone, the Officer-in-Charge refused to share any details of the tragic incident involving the girl student.
The Officer-in-Charge acknowledged that the incident did occur, but refused to share the details with this paper.
