IMPHAL/Kpi/Spt, Jun 11: Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Deputy CM Losii Dikho, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah and NPF Manipur State Unite president Awangbow Newmai have strongly condemned the brutal killing of six Naga hostages, abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13 and found dead on June 10.
Nemcha Kipgen described the incident as a “heinous act of violence” that has deeply shocked society and left an indelible scar on the collective conscience of the people.
The Deputy CM expressed "profound sorrow" and indignation over the unlawful killings and asserted that such brutality has no place in the State.
“The tragic and unlawful killing of six Naga hostages is deeply distressing and goes against the principles of humanity, mutual respect and the values we collectively cherish,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the Government, the Deputy Chief Minister appealed to all communities to stand united in rejecting violence in every form and urged people to work collectively towards restoring peace and harmony in the conflict-ridden State.
Kipgen also conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families and prayed that they find strength and solace during this difficult period.
Deputy CM Losii Dikho condemned the brutal killing of the six men, and called it a dastardly act.
The dastardly killings have hurt and provoked the Naga people. "However, even in this hour of sadness and anger, I plead with the victim families and the Nagas at large to remain steadfast in our faith and belief in the unfailing God and his incomprehensible ways. Let us also recognise that the actions of the perpetrators do not represent the heart of the entire Kuki community," Dikho said.
Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah said the killing of the six Naga men was cruel and it deserves the strongest condemnation.
It's truly sad that the magnanimous gesture the United Naga Council had shown by releasing 14 Kuki people has instead been met with senseless brutality.
"I believe the UNC expected from the Kuki brethren the tribal code of honour and ethics and fellow Christian principle but it was not to be. The Government must identify and apprehend the killers immediately and they should be brought to justice without further loss of time," the MLA said, sharing the grief and sorrow of the bereaved families.
The Naga People's Front, Manipur State Unit too condemned the killing of the six Naga hostages and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
NPF MSU president Awangbow Newmai said the killing of the six Naga men was disturbing.
"It is most disturbing that such reprehensible killing took place when the people are yearning for peace and normalcy to return," Newmai said.
The diabolical cold-blooded murder bereft of morality and ethics only exposed the depravity and criminality of the perpetrators. Mindless violence targeted to destabilise peaceful co-existence of communities has no place in a civilised society, Newmai said.
The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) and Democratic People's Front (DPF) too condemned the killing of the six men.
