IMPHAL, Jun 12 : A sit-in protest was held today at Singjamei Chingamakha Kehstri Leikai against the killing of Kshetrimayum Devjit.
Devjit (42), a resident of Singjamei Chingamakha Kehstri Leikai, was stabbed to death following a brawl over a dog fight on June 10, and four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
The arrestees are Salam Saran (60), his son Salam Boy (43), Salam Gojen (65) alias Taton and Salam Hudson (23) of Singjamei Chingamakha. All of them are currently in police custody.
During the demonstration, protesters carried placards with messages such as "No bail for the killers," "We demand justice," "No sympathy for the killers," "Ostracise the killers," and "Life imprisonment for the killers," among others.
Speaking to the media, Ksh ongbi Rinchen Bhutia, wife of the deceased, said she has three daughters.
Saying that it would be very difficult for her to raise them without her husband, she appealed to the Government to ensure life imprisonment for all those who killed her husband.
Her elder daughter said that her father’s body would not be claimed until justice is delivered.
She also urged that the killers be ostracised from the locality and sentenced to life imprisonment.
