IMPHAL, Jun 12 : Condemnation continued to mount over the barbaric torture and murder of six innocent Naga civilians held captive by Kuki groups, as several organisa-tions demanded a swift, transparent, and time-bound investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
While the Native People's Committee Manipur (NPCM) stated that the families of the victims deserve nothing less than full justice, the Rongmei Students' Organisation Naga- land (RSON) emphasised that there must be no impunity for the perpetrators of the killings.
The Poumai Naga Union (PNU), condemning the brutal murder of the hostages, called upon all Nagas to stand united in the collective quest for justice.
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur (IPOM), People's United Youth Alliance and the All Manipur Agriculture Workers' Union, meanwhile, termed the killing of the Naga hostages a bestial and inhumane act that deserves the strongest condemnation.
All these Organisations also extended their solidarity and shared the grief of the affected families.
'Victims deserve complete justice'
The Native People's Committee Manipur (NPCM) expressed grave concern over the 'apparent' failure of the Government and security agencies to rescue the Naga hostages.
The Committee also said that the recovery of their bodies barely 24 hours after the 14 Kuki hostages were released unharmed raises serious and troubling questions regarding the handling of the crisis.
"The exchange of living hostages for the bodies of murdered civilians can never be accepted as justice and a full public explanation is demanded," it asserted.
The sequence of events has created a widespread perception that the safet release of the 14 Kuki hostages received greater priority than the rescue of the six Nagas who were found dead yesterday, it charged.
NPCM asserted that every individual involved, whether directly or indirectly, must be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Conveying its condolences to the bereaved families and the Naga community , the Committee added that the indigenous people of Manipur deserve answer and the families of the victims deserve nothing less than complete justice.
Barbaric, inhumane : RSON
Rongmei Students' Organisation Nagaland (RSON) asserted that there should be no impunity for those responsible for the killings.
Strongly condemning the barbaric and inhumane treatment meted out to the Naga hostages by Kuki groups, the Organisation called for the identification, arrest, and prosecution of all individuals involved in the horrific crime, in accordance with the law.
It also urged the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is delivered without delay, adding that the rule of law must prevail.
RSON also stated that every effort must be to protect innocent lives.
"Affront to Christian values"
The Poumai Naga Union (PNU) stated that the six Naga hostages were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13 by local women and were subsequently murdered by Kuki militants.
The Union said that the Kuki hostages were provided food, shelter, and a three-tier security arrangement involving Central and State security forces as well as village volunteers, and were eventually released unharmed.
In contrast, it added that the Naga hostages held captive by Kuki groups were mutilated beyond recognition, necessitating DNA testing for identification.
The PNU added that the heinous and cowardly act constituted a grave violation of fundamental human rights, an affront to Christian values, and a betrayal of the basic principles of humanity.
The Union urged both the State and Central Governments to swiftly identify those responsible for the killings, make their identities public, and ensure that they are brought to justice.
MAYOL questions Govt
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), on the other hand, questioned the State Government’s ability to safeguard the lives and property of innocent people.
Condemning the killings, it described the manner in which the Naga hostages were murdered as a chilling demonstration of the brutal and bestial nature of the Kuki narco-terrorists.
The Organisation urged the State Government to arrest all perpetrators involved in the killings.
IPOM seeks thorough investigation
The Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur (IPOM) said that the loss of innocent lives must never be allowed to fade into silence and accountability must be firmly fixed to prevent such acts of brutality in the future.
Condemning the killing, the Organisation urged both the State and the Central Government for a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation into the grave tragedy.
The People's United Youth Alliance (PUYA) and the All Manipur Agriculture Workers' Union also called on the Government to deliver swift justice to the bereaved families.
