IMPHAL, Jun 12: IDPs currently taking shelter at Langol Game Village have urged the State Government and the Government of India to resettle them at their original places before the State Assembly elections.
The ongoing process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been initiated for IDPs too.
Leishangthem Brojendro from Moreh Premnagar Ward No 4, currently taking shelter at Alternate Housing Complex, Langol Game Village, Imphal West told The Sangai Express that SIR process has been initiated for IDPs at different relief camps across the State.
The same process was launched at the Alternate Housing Complex from June 11, he said.
Brojendro said that there are 820 IDPs from Moreh and Churachandpur at the Alternate Housing Complex.
He urged the Government to let the IDPs settle at their original places before the next State Assembly election which is due in early 2027 and let them cast their votes under a free and secure environment.
Noting that the State Government has been welcoming Kukis to come to the valley and some Kukis came to Imphal for medical reasons, Brojendro asserted that the Government ought to make reciprocal arrangements for resettlement of Meitei IDPs at their original places like Moreh, Churachandpur and other hill areas.
42-Tengnoupal AC being a reserved seat for Scheduled Tribes, Meiteis settled at Moreh could not contest elections in the particular Assembly Constituency. As such, it has been either Kukis or Nagas who have been representing Tengnoupal AC all along, he added.
