IMPHAL, Jun 13 : ‘Udukhol Leela’, a dance theatre production by Dance Drama Music Repertoire Union Manipur, was staged today at JN Manipur Dance Academy under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Renowned cultural personality Aribam Syam Sharma attended as chief guest, while JNMDA Director P Bilash and Joint Director, Art & Culture, G Dharmadas Sharma were special guests. Speaking on the work that merges traditional and contemporary theatre, director-cum-president of the Union, Adhikarimayum Ranjit, said the production seeks to present Manipuri dance in a new format to express issues society wishes to voice.   He noted that this is the group’s first such production. All participating artists are his students. Rather than limiting themselves to dance alone, they were trained to narrate stories and render songs through the art form. The initiative aims to help them become complete dance artistes capable of holistic expression, he added.
