IMPHAL, Jun 13: One Kuki militant was killed and two others escaped with injuries in an exchange of fire at Langka Naga village, Kangpokpi district.
Notably, Langka Naga village is located at the border between Tamenglong district and Kangpokpi district along Imphal-Tamei Road (IT Road).
Kuki militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, suspected to be a cadres of KNF(P) and KNF(N) attacked Langka Naga village from nearby Lasan hill range at around 8.45 am today, sources said.
According to the sources, Kuki militants based at Baleijang Kuki village marched toward Langka Naga village and opened indiscriminate fire from the hill range of Lasan.
Naga village guards also fired back in retaliation.
Intermittent firing between the Kuki militants and village volunteers continued till afternoon and one Kuki militant was killed in the exchange of firing while two others sustained injuries.
The Kuki militants attacked the Naga village with sophisticated firearms and explosives and the attack ceased only after one Naga village guard shot down one Kuki militant and inflicted injuries to two others, said the sources.
Soon after, the Kuki militants who came to attack the Langka village fled from the spot, taking along the dead body of the slain and the injured colleagues.
Before fleeing, the Kuki militants burnt down some huts and also killed one dog and a buffalo of Langka Naga village.
There is no report of any injuries on the side of Langka Naga villagers during the Kuki militants’ attack.
On learning about the clash, a joint team of State and Central armed forces rushed to the spot.
The security forces carried out a search operation in the nearby area and took stock of the situation.
The situation in the village remains quite tense and heavy security measures have been taken up to prevent any kind of further unwanted incidents, said the sources.
Meanwhile, Kuki CSOs of Kangpokpi have decided to continue with the ongoing shutdown and launch an indefinite economic blockade.
It is said that the shutdown will continue till the burial of the Kuki militant killed this morning at Langka Naga village who they claimed was a village volunteer.
One Haogin Lhouvum was killed in a gunfight between armed groups near Lasan Kuki village and Makui village, located along the Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) Road under Chalwa police station in Kangpokpi district on June 9, 2026.
Following the killing of Haogin Lhouvum, Kuki CSOs imposed a shutdown in Kangpokpi till the burial of Haogin which took place at Phaijang today.
The Kuki CSOs had resolved to lift the shutdown following the burial of Haogin but they changed their mind and decided to continue the shutdown till the burial of the ‘village volunteer’ killed today.
Kuki CSOs Kangpokpi spokesperson Janghaolun Haokip said that the economic blockade, however, will continue until concrete measures are taken to guarantee the safety and security of Kuki and Zo people living in vulnerable areas.
