IMPHAL, Jun 15 : Peeved and perturbed over the handling of the recent hostage crisis by the Government, the All Naga Students’ Association has questioned why the authorities have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the slaughter of six Naga civilians.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, ANSAM president Th Angteshang Maring said that several Naga civilians were abducted by KNF (P) cadres on May 13, and of those, six hostages were butchered.
Their mutilated bodies were found on June 10.
Stating that the families of the victims had submitted details of some individuals involved in the abduction of Naga civilians to the Kangpokpi SP, the police station concerned, and other responsible leaders, he added that no one, however, has been arrested so far.
He questioned why the Government and the relevant authorities are still not taking any action to bring the murderers to justice.
The ANSAM leader said that the six Naga civilians could have been saved had the security forces acted in a similar manner as they did today, when three suspected Kuki militants injured in a gunfight at Leilon Vaiphei were brought under tight security to RIMS. Saying that there was a lack of genuine effort from the Government and security agencies to rescue all the Naga hostages, he accused them of bias.
He urged the Government to act neutrally and launch an impartial investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
Meanwhile, Naga Women Union (NWU) leader Ch Priscilla Thiumai cautioned that the Assam Rifles bringing injured Kuki militants to Imphal for treatment could further deteriorate the already fragile situation.
Stating that the mortal remains of the six Naga men remain unclaimed at the JNIMS mortuary, she condemned the conduct of the Assam Rifles as an affront to the sentiments of the Naga people.
She also warned that failure to resolve the crisis at the highest level could lead to an unfavourable situation.
