IMPHAL, Jun 17: The three suspected Kuki militants who sustained injuries in an exchange of firing at Leilon Vaiphei, Kangpokpi district have been shifted from RIMS to Churachandpur Medical College.
Army and Assam Rifles troops took the three Kuki militants from RIMS to Churachandpur Medical College in three ambulances at around 12.15 am on June 17.
Sources said that all the Kuki militants are currently undergoing treatment at Churachandpur.
Genlenmang Vaiphei (18) of Leimakhong, Lunliandan Vaiphei (20) of P Moulding and Paogoulal Chongloi (18) of Kangpokpi who sustained injuries in an exchange of firing at Leilon Vaiphei village on June 15 morning were brought to RIMS by army personnel based at Leimakhong in the afternoon of the same day.
This sparked strong protest in and around RIMS and security forces responded by firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs, resulting in injuries to some protesters.
Notably, 18 Naga civilians of Konsakhul were abducted from the same Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13.
While 12 of them were subsequently released, six were tortured to death and their mutilated bodies were discovered only on June 10 from Kharam Vaiphei village.
