Breathing is crucial for survival. The lethal substance, tobacco, is responsible for causing death in millions of people each year. In general, around 7 million people across the world lose their life due to the use of tobacco every year. Thus, the harmful substance is not merely a product anymore but it has now become a health crisis worldwide. Nevertheless, most of the population is immensely hooked to this deadly substance. At present, especially the youths are getting immensely attracted to these types of products.
They have no knowledge of such hazardous impacts of the consumption of the substance and hence, to create awareness about such impacts, the day of 'World No Tobacco Day' is marked every year on 31 May since 1987.
The official slogan for World No Tobacco Day 2026 is: "Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction." It means that things appear attractive but are not necessarily beneficial.
