One injured in Joujangtek firing

IMPHAL, Jun 18 : A person sustained bullet injury in an attack carried out by unknown persons at Joujangtek village along the Bishnupur-Khoupum road, under Khoupum police station, Noney district this afternoon.
The man, who reportedly sustained injuries on his arm and chest, has been identified as Nohjang Haokip of Joujangtek village.
Sources said he was injured when unknown persons opened fire in a paddy field at noon. People working in the field took cover in safe areas following the gun attack.
The injured person was evacuated from the spot and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is said to be in a stable condition, said sources.
State and Central security forces have rushed to the spot and carried out search operations.
Joujangtek village is situated along the Imphal–Khoupum road in Noney district, where a unit of the 19 Assam Rifles is stationed.
Joujangtek village has seen several firing incidents and ambushes in the past.
An ambush carried out by Kuki militants on May 13 at the village area killed a Naga man and injured two others who were travelling in a four-wheeler vehicle.
The Longsai Village Authority and several civil bodies including Leimata Area Chief Association, Kuki Students' Organisation (Leimata Block), KLuki Khanglai Lawmpi (Leimata Block), Leimata Area youth Sporting Association and Kuki Women Union have meanwhile condemned the attack today.
