17 bags of rice for Mid-Day Meal burgled

IMPHAL, Jun 2 : Altogether 17 bags of rice kept at Keishamthong High School for Mid-Day Meal were stolen early this morning.
According to information culled from the spot, it was suspected that the rice bags were stolen at around 3.30 am.
While 17 bags of rice were taken away, one bag of rice and three computer sets were found near the school’s gate suggesting that the thieves could not carry or did not have time to take them.
Notably, 34 bags of rice were unloaded at the school for Mid-Day-Meal scheme a week back before 17 bags were stolen early this morning.
Headmistress Salam Sunita strongly condemned the act of stealing rice meant for serving mid-day meal to students.
She said that they have filed a complaint with Imphal police station regarding the burglary and the school had been closed for today in order to facilitate police investigation.
The Federal Students’ Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) too has condemned the burglary in the strongest terms.
Saying that this act of burglary was a violation of students’ right, it urged the State police to pull up and punish the culprits at the earliest.
