Imphal, Jun 2 : Haobijam Dilip @ Taibanganba (52), self-styled chairman of KCP Taibanganba has been remanded to the custody of Singjamei police station till June 16 by the Court of Special Judge, NIA, Imphal West.
Dilip, who is a native of Keibul Lamjao and currently residing at Bishnupur Awang Leikai, was produced before the Court via video conference from Tihar Jail, Delhi.
Following the hearing, the Court also directed the authorities of Tihar Jail to hand over the accused to Singjamei police.
According to the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, Dilip is alleged to have instructed members of KCP Taibanganba to make monetary demands from shops in and around Imphal area.
The charges relate to a case registered by Singjamei police station on August 18, 2023, following the arrest of three active members of the outfit from Singjamei Sougrakpam Leikai by the Imphal West commando team.
The Court noted that the accused was involved in multiple FIRs and was arrested after sustained police efforts in connection with a separate case.
Considering the gravity of the allegations, the Court remanded him to custody of Singjamei police station till June 16.
Earlier, the IO had requested the Court to authorise a team of Manipur police, stationed in Delhi, to receive custody of the accused from Tihar Jail.
The Court approved the request, noting that the handover was part of executing the production warrant issued on May 27 last.
