IMPHAL, Jun 1: A “Conclave on Zeliangrong Socio-Political Issues: A Strategic Framing Discourse” was held on May 30 in New Delhi.
The conclave, attended by Zeliangrong intellectuals, senior leaders, bureaucrats, student representatives, Church leaders, members of the Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee (ZSWC) and the leaders of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), was organised by the Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD).
The conclave made several resolutions, said the ZWAD.
The conclave observed and strongly urged that an effective mechanism be instituted to synchronize and coordinate the efforts of all stakeholders towards the realization of the shared aspirations and collective objectives of the Zeliangrong people, said the ZWAD in a statement.
The participants emphasized the need for organizing more conclaves, consultations and strategic discussions to foster greater unity, understanding and collective action.
The conclave resolved to organize a democratic rally/demonstration to assert and reaffirm the rights of the Zeliangrong people and to press for the fulfillment of their legitimate political aspirations. A decision to hold the rally across the Zeliangrong 'homeland' and in Delhi at a suitable time was taken. The conclave underscored the urgent need to mobilize and harness the active participation of all civil society organizations (CSOs), scholars, bureaucrats and intellectuals.
The conclave appealed to all elected representatives of the Zeliangrong people, including MLAs and Members of Autonomous Councils (MACs), across the States of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland to extend their endorsement, full cooperation, and unwavering support to this people's movement. The ZSWC has been entrusted with the responsibility of obtaining written endorsements from the elected representatives, said the ZWAD.
"The conclave opined that, if the demand for a Zeliangrong Homeland/State is not immediately accommodated in accordance with the mandate entrusted by the Zeliangrong people to the Zeliangrong People's Convention (ZPC), such an MoS must explicitly acknowledge/mention that the arrangement is interim in nature. It should begin as a preparatory/transitional step towards the realization of a full-fledged Zeliangrong Homeland/Statehood," said the ZWAD. The conclave further resolved to constitute an expert committee to prepare a draft framework and formulate a clear roadmap for finalizing the Memorandum of Settlement to be entered with the Gt of India at the earliest, it said.
