Senapati, Jun 2: In a humanitarian gesture amidst the ongoing disruption along National Highway-2, the Senapati District Catholic Union (SDCU) carried out a relief drive yesterday, assisting over 500 drivers who have been stuck for several days along the highway.
The relief operation, led by SDCU executives and volunteers, provided essential supplies including food, drinking water, and other necessities to truck drivers, transport workers, and passengers caught in the prolonged traffic standstill.
Most of the stranded vehicles were goods carriers transporting essential commodities to various parts of the region.
During the distribution, many drivers expressed frustration and concern over the uncertainty surrounding their situation.
They appealed to the Government for clear guidance on the resumption of highway movement.
One driver said, "We have been waiting here for days without knowing what will happen next. If the situation is not going to improve, we need to be told clearly whether we should continue waiting or return home. Our families are worried about our safety."
Others echoed similar concerns, highlighting both the emotional and financial toll of the prolonged disruption.
The SDCU appealed to authorities to take urgent steps to alleviate the plight of stranded transporters and ensure a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
SDCU also acknowledged the generous support from individuals, Churches, organisations, and well-wishers that made the relief drive possible.
