IMPHAL, Jun 19: A team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), reportedly led by Security Advisor (North East) Ajit Lal, met a delegation of the Pambei-led UNLF at New Delhi on June 18 as a part of the ongoing efforts to advance the peace process.
The Pambei-led UNLF delegation was led by Vice Chairman Khundongbam Lanjingba and included Secretary of External and Regional Affairs Khun-drakpam Sanahal, Secretary of Organisation Khuraijam Ibudhou and Secretary of Human Resources Development Publicity Charairongba Thokchom.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, both sides reviewed recent developments and exchanged views on measures to further strengthen the peace process.
The meeting reportedly focused on laying the groundwork for the commencement of formal political dialogue between the Government of India and the outfit.
Sources indicated that if the current engagements continue to progress positively, a formal dialogue process could begin soon.
The issue of the outfit’s camps at Phayeng and Nongsum also figured prominently in the talks.
According to sources, the relocation of the camps is expected to be completed by the end of June in line with mutually agreed administrative and security arrange- ments.
The meeting is being viewed as another positive development in the evolving peace process between the two sides.
However, neither the Government of India nor the Pambei-led UNLF has issued any official statement regarding the outcome of the talks.
