IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Civic sense in Manipur, or more precisely in Imphal ! Many people tend to dump garbage wherever convenient, as long as it is outside their residential areas.
Travelling around Imphal, one can see piles of garbage dumped indiscriminately in both public and private spaces.
A similar situation is seen near the Manipur Dairy run by the Manipur Milk Producers Co-operative Union Limited situated near Imphal East DC office.
Although the area is supposed to be clean and hygienic, a spot near its gate has recently been turned into a dumping site by some individuals who, through their actions, appear unwilling to keep garbage in their own homes but show little concern if it causes inconvenience or health hazard to others.
Selfishness at its peak it is Situated just around 200 metres from the DC office along Porompat DC Road, the Manipur Dairy, also known as the Central Dairy Farm, produces milk and dairy products, so maintaining hygiene at the premises and surrounding areas is of utmost importance. However, a group of people are often seen arriving in cars at night and dumping sacks of garbage, including poultry feathers, chicken intestines, and other spoiled waste at the spot. The foul smell emanating from the area has raised serious concern among nearby residents, who fear possible health complications.
The presence of swarms of flies at the site, along with garbage being scattered by dogs and cattle, worsened the unhygienic conditions, forcing people to hold their noses while passing through the area.
Given the inconvenience they face, residents of Kongpal and Top Khongnangkhong have urged the relevant authorities to nab and take strict action against those who dump garbage inappropriately.
