IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Saikhom Abinash shone yet again as he snatched a very crucial 1-0 win for Anouba Imagi Mangal (AIM), Khabam against Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei in the first semi-final encounter of the Babina Group 65th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2025-26.
With both the sides aiming for a spot in the final, the match went down to the wire until Saikhom Abinash scored the heart-stopper three minutes into the stoppage time leaving little time for SSU to respond this afternoon at Mapal Kangjeibung.
The two sides were evenly poised and saw plenty of chances earlier, but went abegging due to lack of finesse and sting. However, Abinash’s 8th goal in the tournament (5 matches) was more than enough for AIM to seal their ticket to the final.
Notably, Abinash had his hattrick in AIM’s 3-2 win against Pathap FC earlier in the league stage and scored a double in 2-1 win over Juvenile Club in a pre-quarterfinal match.
Utlou FC will lock horns with USA, Khurai tomorrow for the remaining final berth from 2.30 pm at Mapal Kangjeibung.
