IMPHAL, Jun 19 : Shiv Sena Manipur president Moirangthem Tombi has called for the deportation of illegal immigrants living in the State.
He made the appeal during a flag-off ceremony of two ambulances donated by Shiv Sena Manipur for use in remote areas with limited access to healthcare facilities, held at Babupara today.
Addressing the function, Tombi said that the State has been witnessing demographic imbalance and, as such, illegal immigrants need to be identified.
Lauding the formation of a High-Level Committee on Demographic Change by the Centre to assess unnatural population shifts caused by illegal immigration, he expressed hope that the Committee would pay special attention to Manipur, given the porous border with Myanmar.
Manipur has been facing a serious issue of illegal immigration, he added.
On the recent hostage crisis, Tombi said that the manner in which Kuki groups killed the six Naga civilians in captivity was bestial.
While all Kuki hostages were released unharmed, the Kuki groups showed no remorse and mutilated the defenceless Naga victims, Tombi added.
He urged the Central Government not to turn a blind eye to the violent campaign of a section of Kuki groups and militants.
Tombi said that Meeteis have been unable to travel along the highways for over the past three years, while prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed.
Highlighting the suffering of the people, he added that tens of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are still languishing in relief camps, with some having died by suicide.
Asking whether the Government is waiting for more people to die, he urged the authorities to take steps for the resettlement of the displaced persons.
He also said that the State Government has been unable to expand its Cabinet, ensure free movement along the highways and protect the lives and properties of the people.
He urged the Government to admit if it is unable to restore normalcy.
Tombi also questioned why the Government provided security cover to Kuki militants allegedly involved in the killing of Nagas, while similar measures were not taken to rescue the Naga victims.
Terrorists must be neutralised, he added.
