Court remands

IMPHAL, Jun 19 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, today remanded 27-year-old Maibam Umakanta to judicial custody in connection with the alleged attack on a 48-year-old Traffic police personnel on duty at Paona Keithel with a knife on the morning of June 16.
Accused Umakanta, son of M Shyam of Ukhongshang Nongpok Sekmai and presently residing in a rented house at Wahengbam Leikai, was produced before the Court on completion of his police custody period, following which a prayer for judicial custody remand was submitted by a team of City Police Station.
The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State submitted that on the morning of June 16, while the victim, Salam Tarunkumar of Mayai Koibi, was performing duty at the Khwairamband Keithel area, the accused allegedly attacked him with a knife on his hand and neck from behind before fleeing the spot.
The accused was later arrested the same afternoon.
After hearing the submissions of the APP and perusing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till July 3.
