IMPHAL, Jun 20: A large number of protesters confronted motorcades of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla with slogans demanding justice for the six Naga hostages and other innocent people killed by Kuki narco-terrorists.
A large number of people gathered in front of Tangkhul Baptist Church at around 10.30 am and took out a protest rally up to LIC crossing.
Upon reaching the Kangla northern gate, motorcades of the Governor and the Chief Minister moved past the same route.
As the motorcades moved past them, the protesters shouted many slogans to the Chief Minister and the Governor demanding justice for the many people killed by Kuki narco-terrorists including the six Naga hostages murdered in the most barbaric manner by KNF-P.
On the other hand, in view of the protest rally organised by the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), strong security measures were put in place all along the route of the rally.
The rally started from the Tangkhul Baptist Church and proceeded toward Kangla.
The protesters carried banners which read “Book Kuki terrorists who murdered and mutilated civilians and Pastors at Leilon Vaiphei village”, “We demand justice for the victims of the infamous Leilon Vaiphei massacre carried out by the KNF-P Kuki terrorists”, “We demand justice for the six innocent Naga hostages brutally murdered by KNF-P Kuki terrorist”, “How can a militant’s wife hold the office of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur?” “Why was a terrorist’s wife given the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur”.
The protesters also shouted slogans such as “We want justice”, “Remove Nemcha Kipgen from the post of Deputy Chief Minister", “Abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants”, “Kuki narco- terrorists down, down” etc.
As a large number of people joined the rally organized by the ANSAM, security personnel put up iron barricades on the road leading toward Raj Bhavan at LIC crossing and escorted the rally to prevent any kind of unwanted incidents up to LIC crossing.
After shouting slogans for around 10 minutes, the protesters turned around and marched back to Mao Market, near the starting point.
Upon reaching Mao Market, ANSAM president Th Angteshang Maring extended gratitude to all who took part in the protest rally on behalf of ANSAM.
He recalled that Naga civilians from Konsakhul village were forcefully detained by Leilon Vaiphei villagers and later six hostages were brutally murdered and their bodies mutilated by Kuki militants.
Vehemently condemning the torture and murder of the six hostages and mutilation of their bodies, the ANSAM president demanded immediate arrest of all those involved in the inhuman act.
Even though names and other particulars of some persons suspected to be involved in the gruesome murder have been provided to the State Government, no one has been arrested in connection with the present case so far.
Citing testimonies given by the victim families, Angteshang Maring said that KNF-P militants were involved in the barbaric murder of the Naga hostages and mutilation of their bodies.
He demanded an official declaration to the effect that KNF-P is a terrorist organisation.
Kuki militants under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement have been violating the ground rules of the agreement.
The Kuki militants have been misusing the SoO agreement as a licence to kill innocent civilians, he said and demanded abrogation of the SoO agreement with Kuki militants.
