For decades, the people of Manipur and the North East have endured the challenges of insurgency, insta- bility, and uncertainty. Generations have grown up hoping for a future where peace prevails over conflict and development replaces disruption. Today, there are encouraging signs that such a future is gradually taking shape.
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has demonstrated a firm commitment to ensuring that insurgency is eradicated from the North East by 2029. Under his leadership, security agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle militant networks and restore lasting peace in the region. The recent deployment of CoBRA commandos of the CRPF in Manipur is a reflection of this determination.
Within days of their deployment, security forces launched operations in Songkong village of Chura- chandpur district and Kon-sakhul in Senapati district. These operations resulted in the detention of three armed militants and the neutralization of another armed mili- tant. Such swift and coordinated actions send a strong message that violence and armed activities will not be allowed to hinder the aspirations of the people.
The security response has also been strengthened by the efforts of the new Director General of Police, IPS officer Shri Mukesh Singh of the AGMUT cadre. Since assuming office, he has conducted a series of meetings across district headquarters, interacted directly with police personnel, reviewed security preparedness, and rewarded officers involved in successful operations.
Such initiatives have boosted morale within the force and reinforced the spirit of professionalism and dedication.
The role of 31 Assam Rifles under the leadership of Commanding Officer Colonel Lamba also deserves recognition. Through sustained operations and close coordination with other security agencies, they continue to play a vital role in maintaining peace and security across sensitive areas.
However, peace cannot be secured by security measures alone. Sustainable peace must be supported by development, opportunity, and inclusive governance. Chief Minister Shri Yum-nam Khemchand Singh has consistently emphasized that development is the only lasting cure for insurgency and the surest path towards peace and normalcy.
His Government has remained actively engaged on multiple fronts. Recently, the Chief Minister held discussions with the Joint Tribes Council and representatives of fourteen Civil Society Organisations regarding the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the inclusion of a nominee in the High-Level Committee on Demographic Change. Such engagements reflect a willingness to address sensitive issues through dialogue and consultation.
While marking twelve years of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of a "Surakshit Bharat," the Chief Minister reiterated that development remains the most effective weapon against insurgency. His emphasis has consistently been on creating opportunities, strengthening governance, and ensuring that every section of society becomes a stakeholder in peace.
The State Government is also looking forward to the implementation of the Vik-sit Bharat Gram G Scheme, expected to come into effect from 1 July 2026. The scheme is expected to accelerate rural development and strengthen grassroots infrastructure, thereby contri- buting to economic growth and social stability.
The Chief Minister has maintained an active administrative and political schedule by convening Cabinet meetings and periodic meetings of NDA legislators to ensure coordination and effective gover- nance. Simultaneously, he continues to participate in party activities to strengthen the organisational structure of the BJP and maintain close engagement with workers and supporters.
Economic empowerment has also remained a priority. Recognising the impor- tance of entrepreneurship and employment generation, the Chief Minister has repeatedly emphasized the growth of the MSME sector as a vehicle for inclusive and sustainable development. A vibrant MSME ecosystem can create jobs, encourage innovation, and reduce economic disparities, particularly among the youths.
Another area receiving special attention is sports. Manipur has long been known as India's sporting powerhouse, producing athletes who have brought glory to the Nation. The Chief Minister's meetings with the Manipur Olympic Association and various sports personalities demonstrate his commitment to nurturing the immense sporting talent of the State and creating an ecosystem where young athletes can excel.
The combined efforts of the Union Government, the State Government, the police, the Assam Rifles, and various stakeholders offer hope that Manipur is moving towards a more stable and prosperous future. Challenges undoubtedly remain, but the direction is clear: stronger security, better governance, inclusive development, and greater opportunities for the youth.
As a citizen, I have faith in the leadership of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
Their vision, commitment, and determination provide confidence that Manipur can overcome its present difficulties and emerge stronger than ever before. A peaceful, developed, and united Manipur is not merely an aspiration—it is a goal that can be achieved through collective effort, decisive leadership, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
