IMPHAL, Jun 21: Thounaojam Brinda who contested the last State Assembly elections unsuccessfully in Yaiskul Assembly segment today announced her decision to fight from the same Assembly seat in the coming election which is due in early 2027.
Brinda announced her decision at a public gathering held at her residence at Yaiskul.
She said that no other political party has caused so much destruction and ruin to Manipur as BJP has done.
“When I was serving in the Home Department, I was able to sense that Manipur will face complete destruction if the incumbent Government continues with its policies”, she said.
The former MPS officer said that she quit Government service and fought elections with a conviction that she must do something to save the society.
“Even though I could not win the last election, I received enormous public support and love”, she said.
In order to overhaul the existing system, it is essential to go to the State Assembly, she said.
“I’ve neither money nor muscle power but people’s faith is my strength”, Brinda asserted.
On being asked under which party’s flag she would contest the election, she said that she has not yet decided on that.
Brinda said that she would join the political party accepted and preferred by elders and the masses.
Nonetheless, she underscored the need for a regional political party in Manipur.
Saying that no other political party has brought such destruction and ruination in Manipur as done by the BJP Government during the last nine years, Brinda said that a regional party can work in the interest of the people of Manipur.
But it remains a big question whether the people are ready to elect a regional party to power, she added.
