Chak-hao now US bound

IMPHAL, Jun 23: One metric tonne of organic Chak-hao (Poireiton) grown in the State has been exported to the United States of America with vacuum packaging.
One metric tonne of organic Chak-hao produced by farmer-producer companies of Imphal West working under the Chak-hao Poireiton Organic Producer Company which is supported by the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) was exported recently.
The black rice were first vacuum packed in packets of one Kg capacity before they were exported to Texas, USA under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER), Phase-I.
Speaking to media persons at MOMA office, Sanjenthong today, MOMA Project Director Aribam Punica said that the popularity of Chak-hao grown in Manipur is increasing in different countries.
The Chak-hao consignment packed in vacuum sealed packets of one Kg was first taken to Mundra port, Gujarat before the Chak-hao Poireiton Organic Producer Company exported them to the USA aboard a cargo ship.
Punica said that the vacuum sealed packaging is being done on trial basis.
She said that the quality of the Chak-hao consignment will be checked again after it reaches the USA.
She said that two more metric tonnes of Chak-hao packed in vacuum sealed packets of one Kg capacity will be exported to Sri Lanka in the coming week.
Punica said that the two metric tonnes of Chak-hao will be sent to Sri Lanka from Kochi.
She said that MOMA will do everything to find markets for Chak-hao grown in the State including in Europe.
